How to Make a Rag Rug

by Rachel Baker on May 29, 2014

There is something about a Rag Rug that draws my attention every time I see one. I don’t know why, but I have a great fondness for them, but have never ever had one – most times, they are just too expensive.

I decided a little while ago I wanted a couple for my kitchen, but have done nothing to make it happen. Seeing this tutorial makes me think this may be my big summer project.

I have long loved these rag rugs, but once I see the price tag I move away from them quickly.

I finally decided to make one! Here’s what you’ll need if you want to make one:

– 1 rollie pollie of Riley Blake Fabric
– 4 yards of some plain coordination fabric (I think it would be fun to get 2yds of one color and 2yrds of another)
– a rotary cutter
– needle and white thread
– sewing machine

Begin by cutting your 4 yards of fabric into 2.5? long strips. Yes this is a lot of cutting but if you have the rollie pollie you are saving a bit of cutting
