Turning an Old Coffee Table Into a Tufted Ottoman

by Rachel Baker on May 20, 2014

I have this old coffe table that we got when we moved into our apartment several years ago – to be completely honest, we got it at walmart. And, we’ve still got it. Its incredibly functional and matches all our stuff. But, its a little too low and its getting old; and to take it one step further, its really long (half the length of the couch).

Lately, I’ve been thinking I could spruce it up and turn it into an ottoman. Its incredibly sturdy and its at the perfect height for our feet when we are sitting on the couch.

I was pretty excited when I found this post on countryliving.com about how to turn a coffee table into an ottoman. Check it out!

DIYing decorating blogger Nancy of Artsy Chicks Rule found a banged-up, glass-top coffee table at her local thrift store. But she realized it was square—the perfect shape for a versatile upholstered ottoman. She loved the gorgeous detail in the wood and decided to create a tufted ottoman that wouldn’t hide the amazing carvings in the wood.

After removing the glass top and the framework beneath it, she and her husband got to crafting a new sturdy base and an upholstered top that would sit inside the little ridge.
